ENTERTAINMENTS.
CARTER, MAGICIAN.
The world-renowned Carter, magician, gave his second performance in the Opera House last night, and needless to say was again (successful in completely mystifying his audience. The principal items of the first night's entertainment were repeated—the suspension in mid-air of a hypnotised girl, the wonderful cabinet illusions, and the spirit seances — were as puzzling as ever. Many new tricks were introduced, which only went to amplify Carter's wonderful dexterity in performances that completely hoodwinked the most careful watchers. Miss Carter, also, was again most successful in describing, whilst blindfolded, the most uncommon articles, taken especially to attempt to bali'le her. Her thought-reading and answer* to written questions, which she could not possibly sec. or have the least possible inkling of previously, were marvellous. The last performances will be given to-night, when a change of programme is announced.
PATI-IE PICTURES.
TO-MORROW EVENING
Thanks to the enterprise of Mr Henry Ilayward. local residents are now able to see all the latest events of the world depicted per medium of the cinematograph. The star feature of the new programme to be shown in the Opera House to-morrow evening is the aerial Derby, which recently took place at Vichy in the presence of 200,000 spectators. The film is a very long one, and shows the many exciting incidents in this great aeroplane race, at which all the champion world's flyers were exhibiting. The novelty of the race, combined with views of the great crowd, is sufficient to cause interest alone, but this film is only one of the many interesting and instructive subjects. "Cigar Making in Paris" will specially interest the gentlemen, whilst the ladies will bo particularly catered for in a fine film entitled "The Jewel Robbers." Many charming scenic and dramatic subtogether with a new series of humorous studies, complete the latest programme of Pathe Pictures, and it should be one of the most popular of the many fine scries shown.
