WELLINGTON'S FIRES.
COMPARISON WITH AUCKLAND. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 12. Regarding Inspector Hugo's reference to tho extraordinary prevalence of fires in New Zealand, and matters of insurance, a local fire insurance oflicial states that Wellington, quoted by Mr Hugo, had no disproportionate share of fires. Auckland calls totalled 156, or 100 less than Wellington, but tho population of tho district was 40.000 against 60,000 in Wellington. Dunedin. with 86 calls, has 0 population of 38,000.
