HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
_ For an amateur horticultural society to start its initial show with. a total of 500 entries is something of a feat. Yet this is what the Manawatu Amateur Horticultural Society is dong. The entries now total 500, and there is every reason to suppose that that total will be materially exceeded, as entries are still coming in, and it has been decided not to close them till this evening. It should be an interesting display of blooms that will be exhibited in the A. and P. Association's large agricultural hall to-morrow, comprising, as it will, almost every variety of seasonable flowers. Succulent fruits will also be there in tempting variety, while the excellent vegetable classes are sure to prove an attraction to those interested. To housewives, the home industries section will give ample scope for the display of tlieir culinary ability. Competition in all classes promises to be keen, and while the hot weather may be somewhat trying to the cut flowers the show bids fair, nevertheless, to be entirely successful. ;
