ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

At the inquest into the circumstances connected with the death of James Ford, who was killed at Upokongaro (Wanganui) during the sculling race on Tuesday, the evidence showed that deceased was a total abstainer. Witness Ferry stated that he found deceased lying on his hands, and knees on the grass. No one apparently saw the accident, but it was surmised that the horse tripped over a tuft and threw his rider. Witness Kennedy said that the deceased was quito sober while with him. Dr. Anderson stated that deceased was_ not _ injured externally, but internally his brains were very congested, which was probably the cause of death. Deceased died from concussion of the brain, caused by a fall. A verdict' was given in accordance with medical testimony—that deceased; died from concussion of the brain, the result of accidentally falling from a horse.
