AUCKLAND, December 16. At tbe Police Court to-day John W. Robinson, ch-smist, was prosecuted by the Labour Department on a charge of having employed a boy and paid him less than 5s per week. It was stated that the. defendant employed a schoolboy, at the rate of Is 6d per week to cail once every evening for the purpose of going any messages that might be required. The boy was not employed in tho shop, and did nothing but make the call for messages. His Worship eaid th« boy was employed by the defendant in connection with his business at a weekly wage of Is 6d. The defendant was convicted and fined 5s and costs December 17. A shipment of New Zealand stud stock is to be made to Honolulu by the s.s. Den of Ruth von, which leaves here tomorrow. The ehipment will consist of 150 specially-picked merino sheep from tho flock of Mr Charles Goulter, of Marlborough; 13 Shorthorn bulls from tho well-known herd of Mr William Taylor, of To Awamutu; and four Hereford bulls obtained from Mr Frank Moore, of Kai Iwi, near Wanganui. This is the first shipment of such stock made from New Zealand to Hawaii for the past eight vears OAMARU, December 17. A military court of enquiry sat hero this morning , to enquire into certain volunteer irregularities, two well-known local officers and a staff sergeant-major being implicated. Those composing tho court are Colonel Head (president), Major Richardson (G'hristchurch) and Captain Barclay (Waimate). It is anticipated the proceedings will last some time, and a large number of witnesses have been .subpoenaed.
