Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 9. Mr. J. G. ArundaJ, at present in Auckland, says there is no truth whatever in the- report of a serious outbreak of beriberi at Ocean Island, as cabled from Sydney on May 29, though there has been a good deal of mortality amongst the Chinese coolies on Pleasant Island, 160 miles from Ocean Island, which is leased by the Pacific Phosphate Co. from the German Government. There have been several deaths but nothing like three or four daily and several of these have been due to causes other than beriberi. DUNEDIN, June 9. Mr. Justice Dennistou. in Chambers, was asked to interpret the will of Arthur Beverley, who bequeathed his property to the, University of Otago. The judge expressed the opinion that the University Council was at liberty to formulate a scheme and apply the income partly to teaching and partly to founding scholarships. WESTPOPT, June 9. Francis Healy, alia* Heenan, alias Walsh, arrested for alleged complicity in the Otira safe robbery, was remanded to Greyuiouth. Corbey's Hotel, St. Helen's, near Soddonville, of which Mr. Welters is licensee, and an adjoining cottage was burned down at :} o'clock this morning. A female servant was badlv burned.
