THE NAPIER CARNIVAL.
THE MILITARY TOURNAMENT. "**" Per Press Association. NAPIER, March 25. The military tournament in connection with the carnival was commenced to-day, when the various infantry events wore got off, some taking place in Clive Square and the remainder in the Theatre Royal. The weather was showery all day. About 460 competing volunteers were present, the competitors coming from Auckland in the north and as far south as Invercargill. The following arc the results: — Signalling (Morse code).—Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles 1 and 2, Ponsonby Naval Artillery 3Bugle Competition.—Bugler C. Knock (Napier Cadets) 1, Buglers Waddington and C. R. Smith (both of Christchurch Imperial Rifles) 2 and 3. Tug-of-war.—Napier Fire Police 1, Feilding Mounted Rifles 2. Physical Drill.—Wellington City Rifles 1. Invercargill City Guards 2, Hutt Valley Rifles 3. Tent Competition.—Groytown Rifles 1, Palmerston North Rifles 2. Ambulance Competition.—No. 5 Wellington Field Hospital Bearer Corps and Napier St. 'John Ambulance (equal) 1. Bayonof) '.Fighting.—Wellington Civil Service Rifles l v Invercargill City Guards 2, Palmerston North Rifles 3. Signalling Competition (semaphore).— Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles 1 and 2.
