THE NAPIER CARNIVAL.

THE MILITARY TOURNAMENT. "**" Per Press Association. NAPIER, March 25. The military tournament in connection with the carnival was commenced to-day, when the various infantry events wore got off, some taking place in Clive Square and the remainder in the Theatre Royal. The weather was showery all day. About 460 competing volunteers were present, the competitors coming from Auckland in the north and as far south as Invercargill. Physical Drill.—Wellington City Rifles 1. Invercargill City Guards 2, Hutt Valley Rifles 3. Tent Competition.—Groytown Rifles 1, Palmerston North Rifles 2.
