A TARIFF REFORM VICTORY.
EXCITEMENT IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Per Press Association. (Received March 26th, 8.51 a.m.) LONDON, March 25. The Bye-election for Peckham, rendered necessary by the death of Mr Goddard Clarke, causod the greatest excitement. It resulted as follows:—Gotch (Unionist Tariffitc) 4970, Gautrey (Liberal) 4470. [At the election in 1907 the Liberal candidate (Mr Clarke) polled 5903 votes to the Unionist's 3564.] While Mr George Gouldif%'s fiscal reform resolution in connection with unemployment was before the House of Common-,, the news of the tariff victory at Peckham was announced The result -vas received with' ioar after of cheers from the Unionist benches. The Unionists stood up, excitedly waving Ihcir hats and handkerchiefs, und shoutirg: "Resign!" "You will be unemployed directly.'' The debate wis ultimately adjourned.
