CALEDONIAN SPORTS.

The programme for the fifth annual gathering of tho Manawatu and West Coast Caledonian Society is advertised in this issue. The gathering will bo held on Easter Monday at the Sports Ground. Palmerston North. Over £200 is being distributed in prize-money, and the events- include, a Grand Caledonian Handicap of three distances, namely, 100, 220. and 440 yds handicaps. Prizemoney aggregating £30 is allotted for this event, and a points prize ot ±o for the competitor scoring the most points in the three distances. There are also several other running events, for which valuable prizes have been allotted. The cycling fraternity have also been well catered for, a-race to be known as tho Manawatu Wheel Race Handicap, of £20, being, the principal event for cy- j clists. The other cycling events include a mile, half-mile, and a one mile maiden race. A good programme of Highland pipe music and dancing has also been drawn up. There will also be the usual field games, for which Mr Wishart is allotting a gold medal to the competitor scoring most points. The running events will be conducted under the rules of Hie. N.Z. Athletic Union, and the cycling events under N.Z. League of Wheelmen rules. Mr Ulic Shannon is handicapper, and entries close with Mr D. Munro, Box 76, Palmerston North, on April 6th. 1903. handicaps appearing tho following week.
