THE SYDNEY STRIKE.

After seeing the representatives of the coastal companies, Mr Wade communi- ' cated wifh the- President of the waterside workers, and asked him to put before the strike committee a proposal to refer the dispute to arbitration. The committee declined to agree to this course, but were prepared to meet the coastal companies in conference. A deputation from the Labour Council placed before Mr Wade the labour view in regard to the new Industrial Disputes Bill. Mr Wade said the only reason the Government had for changing the system of arbitration was to secure expedition and rinalii,y. The Government wu.i prepared to accept reasonable amendments, but would not give way o;i the main principles of the Bill. (Received March 18th. 10.22 a.m.) '■ SYDNEY. March 18. Three strikers have been arrested in connection with yesterday's demonstrations on tho wharves.
