ST. PATRICK'S SPORTS.
Then? was a very fair attendance- at the sports held on the Show Ground this afternoon, under the auspices of St. Patrick's Day Sports and Picnic Asso'ciation, the fixture being the second annual gathering. The strong committee appointed to look after details had the oval in good order, and the various events were' productive of tho greatest interest. The Palmerston North Band played several musical selections during the afternoon. Appended are results up to the time of going to press: — >.-■ Maiden Race, 100 yards.—H. T. Tan* ner 1, D. Sexton 2. Boys Race, under 16, 100 yards.—" Aitchison 1, P. O'Grady 2. St. Patrick's Handicap (first even'), 100 yards.— J. H. Barry 1, P. W. O'Shannassey 2, J. S. Taylor 3. Bicycle Race, half-mile. — J. Brown 1, A. E. Parkes 2, M. I'Anson 3. Mile Walk.—E. Smithficld, lSyds, 1; C. Wilson, 50yds,' 2. R. L". SJyfield, 80yds, finished second, but was disqualified by the judge, who objected to his style of walking as too nearly approaching a run.
