P6r Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 30. There is a very large attendance at the Auckland Show to-day. E. M. McLennan's Buttercup was awarded the championship in dairy cows. I NEW PLYMOUTH, November 30. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Oil and -Freehold Company was held last night. The report and balancesheet were adopted. Messrs F. P. Cork ill and G. W. Henderson (Wellington) were elected directors, and £100 were voted to the chairman for the' ensuing year, and £10 each to the other directors for the last year. The manfcger stated the bore was now. down 254 feet, and they had an excellent show of oil that afternoon, but that-did not betoken at present. Much more rapid progress is now being made. A great blow-up occurred in the Birthday Well at the petroleum works, this morning. A mixture of oil, pkpa and water was thrown above the top of the derrick and carried across the road on to some trucks in the freezing works siding. Two or three minor blow-ups occurred during the week, and are regarded as an excellent indication. DUNEDIN, This Day. Smart, convicted of stealing State Fire funds, was sentenced to six months' hard labour.
