He then categorically denied Close's allegations as to his receiving half the money, adding, " It is a lie in any and every case." He gave an equally emphatic denial when asked if he had received moneys from W. N. Willis in connection with land transactions.

A substantial amount was netted to the Hospital fund from sispenny tickets.
