Kairanga County Council.
The adjourned monthly mooting of the Kairanga County Council wits hold otw Saturday. Thera wore present:— Crß, R. Wore (in t}io chair), Bryant, Moody, Buchanan, O'Loughlin, Thomas, Monrad, Voss. CORRESPONDENCE. Corrcspondcncc was roccived and dealt with as under:— From the Treasury, forwarding the sum of JSIOO, being the first payment of the £250 loan for protecting tho Manawatu Rivor bank,—Roccived. From Receiver of land revenue, forwarding £8 9s 6d, being amount of hypothecated thirds.—Received. From Railway Department, stating that the crossing on Foxton Lino could not be opened until trees which obstruct the view are cut downi~Recwvod. From T. Sorensqn and the Lands Department (two letters), in reference to removal of gravel from river bed at Oroua.—-The Irisgector was authorised to inspect tho spot and to take-legal proceedings if necessary. Prom Manawatu County Council, forwarding consent, to proposed proclamatioia re Awahuri Bridge,—Recoived. From H. E. Wills, applying for # lease of the road machine shed at Kairanga for use as a blacksmith's shop.—Decided to accede to the request, the rent to bo 4s weekly, the Council reserving tho right to still store tool? in the building. REPORT. ;V; The Inspector reported on the work done by the maintenance staff daring the month, and also" on tho progress made by the various contractors. On the Main Road East at Fitzbcrbert there was a culvert in a bad state and requiring reconstruction. He recommended that its position be slightly altered and the size increased. The state of Cliff Road was referred to, the Inspector raising the question as to the : unsafe portion of it. It was already ' blocked each side of the slip by the erection of fences. The report was adopted. \ It was decided to instruct the manager of the c&amery at Fitzherbert West to abate an alleged nuisance on the road immediately. The Inspector was also authorised to alter the position of the Main Road bridge as . recommended by him. DEPUTATIONS. Mr Collis asked the Council to attend to the metalling of the road by his property at Kairanga. It was decided that the inspector be authorised to spend the money on the estimates for the work. * Messrs Moffatt and Mildon asked the Council to do something to present water backiog-up on to their property.* The Inspector was instructed to report on the request. Mr McMurray complained of the state of Stoney Creek on tho Napier Road. The Inspector was instructed to view the spot and have the trouble attended to. Mr M. Cohen waited on the Council to ask for something to be done to a road running by his property between Boundary Road and Roberts' Line. He said it was still in its primitive condition of grass, logs and gullies, and he «fed his neighbours desired that it should be made navigable by at least light traffic. At present they had no direct moans of access. The chairman pointed out to Mr Cohen that he and those interested could get a special loan raised-for the purpose if they so desired. It was finally decided that the inspector should report on the request and include it in the coining year's estimates. : MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided that v the inspector should submit to tho first meeting of tho new Council a list of all roads occupied by latepayers. The inspector was instructed to make up and present the estimate of all works ordered to be considered during the coming year, to be in at the nest meeting. Councillors Bryant and Buchanan were appointed a deputation to wait on the Borbugh Council with a request for a contribution towards the erection of a bridge over the Tiritea stream near the waterworks. ; The ordinary monthly accounts were passed for payment. The inspector was instructed-to pre-, pare .an estimate of the cost of necessary protwiive at Awahuri Bridge, and to present the same to the Manawatu County pouncil for its information at once. He was also authorised to call tenders for re-grading the hill at Captain Gardiner's, to b 8 in by j&pril 7th. Crs Bryant and Buchanan, with the Inspector, were authorised to open the tenders. „ TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted for various works: —No. 68; G; McCarthy, at 4s per yard; No. 69. W. Burgess, at .£22 10s., The acceptance of a tender for contract 70 was left in the hands of Crs Moody and Bryant. It was decided th& none of the tenders sent in be accepted for the erection of two concrete bridges, and that the Inspector call fresh tenders at once, such to be also advertised in "Wellington. The meeting then adjourned.
