The Nelson Carnival.

(13y Telegraph). (Special to Standard). NELSON, This Day. * Nelson is en fete in connection with the carnival, which commences on Alonday. The town is gaily decorated with bunting and evergreens, the main streets in particular presenting a very pretty appearance. Visitors have arrived in large numbers during the past week, each steamer being crowded. The Pateena to-day brought nearly 200 passengers, including many firemen travelling to the Fire Brigades Conference at Nelson. The proceedings commence tomorrow with a church parade of volunteers aud iiremen. On Alonday the conference and the races will be held later. On AVednesday the trotting meeting takes place, while the other attractions include cycling sports and a band contest. The competitors include the Feilding Band. from all parts of New Zealand are congregated at Nelson and the success of the carnival is assured.
