Sporting Notes.

[By "Gebaxnt."]

A local sport who has just returned from a visit to Mr Walter's stud farm at Papakura, speaks in terms of unqualified praise of all he saw there. He went through all the young stock and all the matrons and found all ct them luxuriating in pasturage up to their knees. He is especially 'commendatory in his remarks respecting the 3 oung stock, the full brothers to Wairiki, Marshal Soult, and Las 30' Gowrie finding greatest favour in his eyes, and he is no mean judge either. .Each of these young aristocrats showed quality, substance and size and generally their high breeding. He saw Santa Katarina, Dodona, ±set'sy and Windlass and several other mares from the district who are visiting Soult, and they were each in the pink of condition. Owners, according to the visitor, need have no apprehension as to the welfare of their matrons, each, together wi»h the young stock, being under Mr Walters own personal supervision. He;was greatly pleased . with his visit and also with the youn» stock and anticipates there will be several purchasers from this district when the annual sale comes round. Since her arrival in Auckland Santa Katarina has foaled a fine oolt foal to Capt. Webb. The Medallion mare Miniature will visit Nonette this year. Her last year's foal by Advance has already been sold at a satisfactory prico to a local owner. J. Lowe, who ha 3 commenced opera ■ tions at the Hutt, was in Palmeraton a few days ago and took away Martin O'Brien and the ex-hurdler Australasia who has been hacked about hero for some time past. The Hon. J. D. Ormond's sire horse, The Officer (Robinson Crusoe—Marie Louise), was sold last Saturday for 45 guineas. His new owner was offered a substantial advance after the sale, but preferred to hold on to his new horse. Vigoro, by Crackshot—Hoyden, who ran second to Ngatarua when the latter won the Ashhurst Guineas, was passed in at 43gns. Glenullin, the Lochiel- Consistence colt that won a double at the recent Waverley meeting, was one of the team of Australian bred youngsters sold here by Mr L. de Pelichet about a couple of years ago. Truce and Tupono formed part of the same string. Gienullin cost ISOgns in the ring. He is trained by W. Powell, for some time head lad at F Tilley's.

The champion show ring jumper, Duchess, is not being jumped this season owing to an accident she met a week or so ago by getting in a wire fence.
