An Explanation.

Sir, —In your report of the meeting of the Borough Council in issue of the Bth I noticed the adoption of the Inspector's report re Mr Louisson's bottling yard, but missed the report itself until this morning. My name is freely used and my complaints as to said yard. frivolous and groundless. I cannot let that pass as it, means that' I have no respect whatever for the ninth commandment. The first of my complaints was about nine months ago through two fires at different times in said yard through carelessness and so much inflammable rubbish littered about. The first Mrs Frew and I put out in its early stage. The second, which had got a good hold amongst old cases and halfrotten straw, was put out by neighbours and passers-by. But to come to the end of October last I again complained in writing, which for the first time had the desired effect. If my complaints were frivolous and groundless, why was it necessary for him (Inspector) to order it to be cleaned when several cartloads of rotten straw and uiud were carted out of it. Likewise it looked as if Mr Louisson considered I was not worth a thought as he had a pile of old boxes with more or less old straw against my bedroom wall, and when an easterly or south wind blew the scraping and knocking was anything but pleasing. Perhaps the Inspector's duty is confined to one class of sanitary work only, and what I have been complaining of so long should go under some other name than a common nuisance. However, be that as it may, the yard ia now comparatively clean and safe, the boxes removed from the wall, and if kept so there will be no more complaints.—l am, etc.,

Wit. Frew. Eangitikei street, 15th Nov., 1905.
