Homing Pigeons.

,; The-annual meeting of the Palmerston Homing Pigeon Society, held at the society's rooms in Main-street was a.large and representative one, showing that a keen interest is taken in this form of sport. -■■.- ; The committee's report stated that a ■very successfulyear's racing was closed with a young bird race on May 6th, oeveral members of the club had resigned but it was still prospering. The weather had been bad for racing. The membership had increased beyond expectation, the total now being 22, all of whom would fly birds this season. The thanks of the club were tendered to a number of gentlemen who gave trophies, to Mr R. Edwards for a racing map, to Mr W. T. Wood for a map of JNew Zealand, to Mr Merrimah for keeping and sealing the members' clocks, the stationmaster and staff at Palmerston for attention given to birds m transit, and to Mr Johansen for carting hampers.—The report and balance-sheet (showing a credit balance) were adopted. The following officers were elected for the year 1905-6:—Mr W.T. Wood, M.H.R., patron; Mr R. Edwards, president; Messrs M. Cohen, H. S. Fitzherbert, D. O'Connor, J. Nash, S Luxford, F. Pirani, C. A. Loughnan, it. bmith, L. Simmonds, J.. Hoopwood, W. H. Hagger (Cristchurch), M. Corney (New Plymouth), D. Harvey (Auckland), I. J. Lyghton (Wellington), H. bvensen (Napier), and Drs Peach and Stowe, vice-presidents; Mr E. E. Smith, secretary; Mr C. K. Whale, clockreader ; Messrs L. Home, E. Johansen, Gr. Alhnan, H. Collingwood, and B. Dowdall, committee.

It was decided to commence the racing season early in October, and to hold a federation race (open) the limits to be Foxton in the south and Feilding m the north. It was resolved that two trophies be awarded for the highest velocity in the old birds' and the young birds' races.

It was also [resolved, that the entry fees for the Societies' races be sixpence for the first bird and threepence for each additional bird.

The committee were instructed to meet on Monday night next and draw up a programme for the old bird races.
