Mr W. J. McGrath, storekeeper, has definitely announced himself as a candidate for the Napier seat against allcomers. Mr McGrath is one of the leading lights in Labour Union circles, i and is understood to be.standing in the ! Government interest. Whale in Hawke's Bay during the past ten days, Mr. A. L. D. Fraser, the present member for Napier, received numerous overtures to contest the Hawke's Bay seat. Mr Fraser emphatically declined''the request, and announced his intention of standing again for Napier. Mr T. Mackenzie has asked in the House whether the Premies- is aware of the great advantage State fire insurance lias been to a largo section of the public, and the disadvantage it is-to others whose risks are above the limits accepted by the State Fir* Insurance Department, the insurance companies having raised the rates in the latter classes. Mr Mackenzie wants the Premier to endeavour so to arrange the State Fire Insurance Department's business that it may be able to take increased amounts.
