The Land Commission.
(Per Press Association.) OAM_AKU,,March. 30.. The Land Commission look evidence in the morning at Windsor and in the afternoon at Ngapara. the centres of considerable areas of lease in perpetuity lands. The tenants admitted with the exception of several on Windsor Park No. 1 Settlement, that they had done well in the past few years. The latter complained of the want of water and defective roadmg; also that in their case they were not allowed the 10 per cent rebate for prompt payment of rent.
The Chief Commissioner explained that the quejtion of rtbata was lefs to himself aud the receivers of land revenue, and he considered that this estate had been purchased on such favourable tarms that the rebate should nos be Branted. 6
Mr Livingstone a member of the Land Board and a tenauc of the EldersHe settlement, said the Minister had desired that the rebate should bo allowed.
The Chief Coinmi-sioner objected to snch a statement bdog made.' The law was at fault, not he.
TheCbairman of the Land Commission said the Legislature should not have left such a matter in the hands o£ the Chief Commissioners and the receivers of la^d revenue. It had only been fiddling with the question, The tenants all expressed ihf-mselvea as satisfied with their tennre.
