An Overwhelming Victory.

The Killed, Wounded and

Prisoners.

Over 200,001).

(Received March 14, at 7.12 a.m.)

LONDON, March 13. The St. Petersburg correspondent of a French newspaper describes the retreat as a debacle. Some soldiers became mad and fired on their own side, while others bayonetted trees in mistake for Japanese. Many wept and lay on the ground making the sign of the cross, and whole brigades surrendered without orders.

The Telegraph's Tokio correspondent says the victory was overwhelming. The number of dead and prisoners are so enormous that the Japanese are hardly able to deal with them.

St. Petersburg telegrams to Paris confirm the estimate that the Russian killed, wounded and prisoners number two hundred thousand, with 500 guns. The Japanese captured a vast amount of bullion.
