The following entries have been received for the various events at the carnival regatta next week, which promises to be a great success:—Star (Wellington), Clifton (Waitara), Napier, Nelson, Waitemata, "Wanganui Eowing, W<angamii Unions, andAramohoßoating clubs.
NAPIER, This 'day.
The Court is engaged investigating two charges perferred against James Percy Holroyd, formerly in a position of trust at Nelson's freezing works, and Thomas Henry Gibson, for nineteen years in the employ of the Clothing Factory, of stealing goods to the value of £14 and from Hallenstein Bros. The evidence so far goes to show that Holroyd obtained goods from Gibson, who failed to show any record of the transaction. A number of winesses from the freezing works deposed to buying articles of clothing from Holroyd at cheap rates, and anything they asked for would be supplied by the manager of the factory. In the evidence it was said it had been known for some time that there had been a leakage in the stock but they "were unable to discover the cause. The hearing is proceeding.
■:.:.-: . TIMARU. This day. ,-The search for the missing party of fishermen is still being continued. When on the beach at Hangitata yesterday afternoon, the father of the two missing boys, and a companion with him, saw the boat, with sail set, about 5 miles irom the shore. He telegraphed to Timaru, and the tug dredge left in search, but returned at midnight without having seen a sign of the missing boat. The dredge is continuing its search to-day.
PAHIATUA, This day.
A man named Birnird residing near Konini, attempted to commit suicide this momiug by cutting his throat with a razor. He had been misßing for two days and search parties were oat scouring the country in aearoh of him. At about 4.80 yesterday afternoon v wire waa received- from Paltuerston to the effect that Barnard was there. He returned home last night and early this morning out bia throat. He is not expected to recover. WELLINGTON, This 'day,, A decree nisi was granted by the Chief Justice in the case of Dempaey v. Dempsey, wife's petition, on the ground of habitual drunkenness.
