Southern Stork Sales.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. There were, fair entries ok stock at Acldiugton to-day, : and the interest which is now being caused by the mgh prices for sheep assisted in making, competition keen. The supply of fat cattle was in excess of the demand, and prices were consequently weaker. Steers^ brought from £6 10s. to £11 7s 6d, heifers £5 15s to £S 7s 6d,_ cows £5 to £7 17s 6d, prime beef sold at 22s Gd and cow and secondary at 18s to 21s, veal calves sold at 10s to £2 6s. The entry of store cattle was mate up mostly of well-grown young stock, which sold fairly well. Other descriptions met 4 with but little demand. Yearlings brought 34s Gd, fifteen to eighteen months £2 17s (id to £3 ss, two-and-half year heifers £4 10s to £4 15, three-year steers £6 10s to £7 2s Gd, threeyear heifers £5 to £5 7s Gd. Dairy cows met a dragmno- sale, at up to £9 2s 6d. .

The fat sheep sale opened at the previous week's rates, but under the influence of keen competition prices hardened, and the average. v:as higher than that of the previous market. The range of prices was— Extra prime wethers 265; to 27s 3d, prime 2ls to 24s 3d, others ISs 3d to 20s (id, extra prime ewes 21s to 225, prime 18s Cd to 20s (id,- others. J3s Ski to ISs. Most of the fat lambs were of good quality up to prime, and the entry again included some particularly prime lines of tegs. The competition was not so brisk as at last sale, and there was a decline hi values, more particularly in lots which were not quite prime. Tegs made 17s to 19s 9d, and a few cxtia to 225, freezers 15s to 16s, 7d,, and lighter 13s 3d to 14s Gd. The yarding of store sheep was chiefly composed of wethers and lambs, and there was a good clearance at auction at late rates. Ewes brought Ms 3d to 17s, wethers from 19s M to 14s lOd, lambs 14s 7d to 11s 2d. There was an improved demand for pigs, cs2)ecially for baconers, .which made 46s to 58s, equal to 'ikl to 42-d per Hi. Porkers sold at 32s to •l'2s, equal to 4-Jd to 5d per 1b ; large stores 25s to 325, medium 18s to. 225, weaner.s 8s to 13s. DUNEDIN, May 18. At Burnside' to-day 220 fat cattle were yarded, mostly fair to good. Competition was not so keen, and prices were easier than last week bjr about 10s per head.
