Sydney, March 2. There was a rainless night and the morning is fine with a good drying wind, The Herald says the wicket yesterday was undoubtedly bad, but in the light of the Englishmen's exhibition the performance oi: the Australians was disappointing and was a case of getting runs or getting out, so that the Englishmen might have a iaste of the wicket wlr.le it was a quagmire. When the Englishmen came in the wicket, which was a rapidly improving one, was so slow and easy that it took all the fire andpace out of Trumble's and JNoble's attack.
The ielegraph. says everybody expected to see half a dozen English wickets down for a few runs. Hayward and Foster's stand was a great performance and altogether changed the aspect of affairs.
