Harry Palmer.
Harry Palmer reports large entries in all departments. Our poultry pens were filled to overflowing, and notwithstanding this the prices realised were good. Turkeys are scarce, and we may have maDy orders on hand, which at present we are unable to fulfil. Ducks 4< to 5s 6d, average price about 4s 9d, ducklings 2s 6d to 3s 9d. Cockerels are scarce, very few really prime birds coming forward, although good prices are always obtainable. Half grown birds 3s to 4s 3d, prime 6s, hene 3s to 4s (jd A few well brt-d 'iens sold at 2s 6d to 3* each. Geese 7s 4d to 8s per pair, turkey hens 4s to 0s 6d, gobblers 8s to lls 6d.
Our yarding of pigs comprised 95 head, the bulk of the entries being stores, slips and porkers. Weaners showed little signs of diminishing in value, and prices realised were quite up to the mark. Suckers 6s to 7s. Weaners 19s to 15s 6d. Buyers were inclined to be cautious when dealing with the bigger pigs, and as a result one or two lines failed to reach the reserve, our vendors not being prepared to submit to a fallm price. We quote: Slips 16s to £1 2s. porkers 23s to 255. We put through our first consignment of localiygrown potatoes. The market opened fairly brisk, and about Id per lb was the average price. Onions, sound sample, which is now a rarefy, are worth from Id to l£d per lb. Red currants and cherries 3s per case. Wheat 4s, barley 3s. Old potatoes are practically a dead letter. Farmers' bacon and hams 6d to 7d, with a real good demand.
On Wednesday we held a clearing sale at Mr D. Shute's Raukawu. The attendance was yery large and practically a total clearance was effected with excellent results.
