On Friday last the governing body of- this • district—the Manchester 'Road Board—ceased .to vexist.i V The Board has been in existence,; since 1879, and undoiuDtedly carried out. the functions for which it- was created. However, the trend of feeling at the present day being to create County Councils, and the district having advanced'to such a. degree that it was almost top unwieldy to manage with the. limited facilities possessed by a Road Board, the Manchester Road Board fell into line and merged in ■' the Oroua. County. This Council, which had been lying dormant for a considerable number of years, was resuscitated for the purpose. What was .known as Nos. 6 and 7 Wards of the Road Board are now the Hiwinui; and Otangaki Ridings, and are represented- by Councillors Thos. Rowling and J. H. Vincent. respectively.
The County . Council meets in the County offices, Feilding, on the first Friday in eacli month.
