AUCKLAND, Dec 5. A collision occurred at Newmarket between an electric car' add a trap containing a number of people who, were going out to the races with provisions for the booth. The trap was smashed, and five people have been' sent to the hospital. The names and nature of their injuries have not yet been ascertained.

At the inquest touching the death of James McConnel, who was drowned by falling from a projection of'the Heathcote bridge while fishing, a verdict of accidentally drowned was returned. The jury commended the conduct of deceased s brother and the man Wilfred Beadel, who jumped, fully clad, into the river, which was running strongly, and attempted to rescue the boy.
