Caledonian Society.

The proposal to rovivo Calcdon- | ian and kindred sports in Palmers- j ton tool; tielinitc shape at the meeting held at the l'hoonix Hotel last evening in connection with the matter. There was a very fair attendance, including several "has been" athletes and also members of the Society previously in existence in the town. Mr 1). r,uick was voted to the chair, and during- his remarks said the idea in forming- the new Society was not to limit" its influence to the town only, Init to have, if possible, a beneiicial effect upon sport all along the coast. He suggested that the society might also consider the advisability of holding a Caledonian concert and dance during- the winter in conjunction with the sports gathering in the .summer. After discussion on the all important topic of ways and means, it was decided, on the motion of Mr W. Fe.nton, to form a society to be known as the Manawatu and West Coast Caledonian Society. The following oflicers were elected : —'President, Mr P. Buick ; General Committee, Messrs Raeburn, G. Mewth, Simpson. Hodgins, Browning, Fenton, Linton,' Little, A. Jack and J. J\. McMillan, the latter also being appointed secretary, pro tern. The meeting then adjourned till June 4th, when the question as to suitable days for holding the sports and other matters will be discussed.
