The result of the poll for the .CSOOO loan in Nos. 6 and 7 Wards of the Manchester Road Board, is, so far as -Ashhurst is concerned, most gratifying to those who are taking an active interest in the advancement of the district, as well as a credit to the townspeople who can now see that to keep abreast ol the times they must be up and doing. Of 53 ratepayers who recorded their votes, there were only six cast their votes against the loan. This represents the ordinary percentage of votes "again" anything. The votes recorded by Hiwinui were 30 for and .29 against. The result at Spur Road has not yet come to hand, but as a three-fifths majority is required to carry the loan, there is a great chance of it being defeated, the only consolation being that Ashhurst, as a township, did not retard the progress of the district.
Our Volunteer Corps is now an established fact, the required number being sworn in. The non-coms, drill on Saturday night, and the full drill takes place on Wednesdays.
