Bunnythorpe.

(Manawatu Times.)

On Friday evening our public hall was crowded to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Duncan Matheson and to welcome home Troopnr George Jans«n. The mpoting wai rcry enthusiastic. Mr J. Dixon provided.

Tlio piano was played by llin Misnoa Scbeidt and Mas'ers, and Mrs Waklin ; sonfis wero given by Messrs J. Print and E. Clovely ; recitations by Miss M. Dixon, Mr Albert Jackson nnd Master B. Leiz, and a mo3t amusing reading by Mr R. Currio. Addresses sui'ablo to the occasion wore given by the chair, man nnd Messrs Espiner and Eggleton. Ample refreshments were provided under the supervision of Meadamei Eggloton, Espiner, Soheidt, Baker, Jepson and Mibs Masters. Not the least important items were the presentations which took place. The chairman in a felicitous speech presented Mr Matheson with a hanrtsorno silver-mounted walking stick, and Mrs Dixon on behalf of the ladies of Bunnythorpe presented Mrs Matheson with a beautiful istlver salver and sugar basin and cream jug to match. Both Mr and Mrs Mathsson acknowledged tho gifts in a feeling and happy manner. Mr Espiner then presented Trooper Georgo Jansen. with a handsome silver watch and chain, snbsotibed for by friends in Bunnythorpe as a memento of hia military eareor and of hia safe return. Trooper Jansen acknowledged the gift in a few well-ohosen words. Votes of thanks to the chairman and others concluded a most enjoyable evening.

As phowing the quality of tho Bunnythorpe land for cropping, Mr Ward, of Osklea farm, has netted from 6i acreß of oaten chaff tbo sum of JEBO 12s f so there is no wonder that land in this district is fetching high prices which compare favourably with the far-famed Kairanga.
