An Autocrat on the Railway.

In Italy, according to the «« Bailway Magazine," some amusement has been afforded by tbe Shah's prejudice against rapid railway travelling. On reaching the Italian frontier he gave orders that the train should not travel faster than twenty miles an hour, and on finding that during the night the velocity was nearly twenty-five miles an hour, he called up the official in charare of the train and told him to slacken the speed. The only exception to this rule was during the passage of the train through the.numerous tunnels which characterise Italian railways". Upon thß3e occasions the Shah let it be understood that he wished the train'to rush through the tunnels at fall speed, so thai ho might remain as short as possible in the bowels of the earth." ■
