PALMEBSTON—WEDNESDAY.

(Before District Judge Kettle). C. Moore and Thos. Cooper (Mr Etzherbert) pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting and resisting Constable Franklin in the execution of his duty it Ashhurst on April Bth. The following witnesses gave evidence on behalf of the prosecution:—Constable Franklin, George Maunder, Geo. Half ord, H. Francis and H. West, "and fortheJdef ence the two accused. .

Counsel having addressed the^Court and His Honor summed up, the jury .retired, returning shortly after with a verdict of guilty against the accused. Cooper was fined £5 and allowed one month in which to pay the fine and Moore was ordered to come up for' sentence the following morning.
