ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Fitzherbert Eoad Board was held to-day. Present—Wardens Kendall (Chairman) Greer, Lancaster, G. Eendall, Clapperton, and Conlan. CORRESPONDENCE. From A. Guy with reference to Millenck's loan and stating that he could not find authority to pay special rates out of the general revenue. The rate •would have to be collected as a special rate as in the past. From Captain Hewitt asking for £3 compensation for a steer killed by falling into a gravel pit, left unprotected on No. 4 Line. , From G. H. Aldrich asking permission to take a few loads of gravel from Dick's pit. * DEPUTATION. Mr Wingate waited on. the Board and requested that the 10 per cent, added to his rates be remitted. He stated he had iieen absent and the omission to pay at due date was not owing to negligence, A legal opinion received in reference to a similar application received from Mi- C. Walker was read, showing that the Board had not power to remit *he 10 per cent, charged. The applications of Messrs Walker and Wingate were therefore not entertained. Captains Gardner and Hewitt waited oa the Board and asked that the Kahuterawa road he made fit for wheel traffic past Mr Jenken's property upwards. Captain Hewitt considered an expenditure of £30 would make the road fit for wheel traffic. , • A long discussion ensued on the matter and it was eventually decided to do necessary work as soon as the rates commenced to come in. REPORT. The Overseer reported that the Main road from Anderson's road to the Linton Station was in a very bad state owing to wood carting in wet weather. The new metal had been completely cut through and unless action was taken the road would become impassable. It would require 4 or 5 yards of metal to the chain to fill in the ruts. If the wood carting continued it would cost the Board £50 to keep the ruts filled in and make the road passable. He suggested that notices be served upon certain settlers to clear the watercourses running through their properties to allow water to escape.
