(Per Press Association.) New Plymouth, June 11. 'The Co-operative Society's stores were broken into at an early hour this morning and a quantity of goods and money stolen. Two men were seen inside the store, but when the police were called they had decamped.
Masterton, June 11. The operations of the Masterton A. and P. Association for the past year | show a credit balance of £290. The association, the membership of which was increased by over 200 during the year, intends to hold a two days' show next year, and expending £300 in improvements which will include the nucleus of an Agricultmal Hall. The association is asking the Agricultural Department for information as to the best means for destroying lampas in the mouths of horses without burning. Elthasi, June 10. A man named Hopkinson was waykid just outside the town in broad daylight by two men armed with revolvers and sandbags, who relieved Mm of a sum of money. Waimate, June 10. A meeting was held at Wamiate tonight to protest against a proposal to include Waimate Borough within the Timaru Harbour Board district. Eesolutions were passed calling upon the Borough Council to take steps to resist the proposal. , Dunedin, June 10. The New Zealand Native Association's first prize for a competitive essay on "Should New Zealand Federate with Australia?" was won by Mr J.C. Thomson, of Eiverton. with Mr A. E. Currie, of Canterbury College, second. Chbistcettbch, June 10. The question of granting a retiring allowance to the ex-town clerk and exassistant town clerk, came up before the City Council this evening. The two officers, who have lost their positions, have repeatedly asked for retiring allowances in accordance with an alleged agreement, but the Council has decided that it cannot legally pay them. This evening it again expressed the same opinion. It has been suggested that the dispute should be settled by Parliament or else by a Supreme Court action.
