INGENIOUS RETURNING OFFICER.

An application for the taxation of the cents of the returning officer at the South-West Norfolk election has been made be Mr R. Winfrey (the defeated Liberal candidate) at the Norfolk County Court. The. bill totalled £510, the moiety of each candidate being £255. Among the many items objected to was one curious charge for "thirty Pentateuchs At 6d each for swearing Jews." Mr Winfrey remarked: "We have no Jews in Norfolk; and I paid for thirty five years ago." The judge adjourned the taxation.
