The following letter has been sent by the Bishop of Wellington to all the clergy having charge of parishes or parochial districts of the diocese, and also to Maori clergy:— " Bishopscourt, Wellington, " 23rd January. lgOl. "Eev^and Dear Sir,—lt will, lam sure, be your desire to call together the people entrusted to your care for .a solemn act of devotion to Almighty God on the day appointed by our Government (next Sunday) for mourning the death of dearly-loved Queen. In place of the Commendation ("Forasmuch as it hath pleased Almighty God. .... ."), which should not be said, an address or sermon may be given.. PRAYERS, I.

We give thanks to Thee, our Heavenly Father, for all the blessings which Thou haEt bestowed upon our nation during the reign which has now ended. For increased knowledge of Thy word and works; for the spread of Thy gospel in distant lands; for this fair country which Thou has given us; and for that it hath pleased Thee to knit together in brotherly love us and our kinsmen throughaut the world, we praise and glorify Thy holy Name. We give thanks to Thee because Thou hast given to Thy servant now at rest a wise and understanding heart, a continual love of her people, and above all a strong and enduring trust in Thee. And finally we pray that we, cherishing the memory and following the good example of her and all Thy faithful servants departed, may at length enter with them into Thine unending joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

11. (From the service hitherto appointed for

the 20th June.) Almighty God, Who rulest over atl the kingdoms of the world, anddi"sposest of them according to Thy good pleasure; we yield Thee unfeigned thanks, for that Thou hast been pleased to place Thy Servant our /Sovereign Lord Edward upon the Throne of this Realm. Let Thy wisdom be his guide, and let Thine arm strengthen him; lot justice, truth, and holiness, let peace and love, and all those virtues that adorn the Christian profession, flourish in his days; direct all his counsels and endeavours to Thy glory, and the welfare of his people, and give us grace to obey him cheerfully and willingly for conscience' sake ; that neither our sinful passions, nor our private interests, may disappoint his cares for the public good; let him always possess the hearts of his people, that they may never be wanting in honour to his person, and dutiful submission to his authority; let his reign be long and prosperous, and crown him with immortality in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
