Volunteer Intelligence.
The Post regrets to learn that a number of the Wellington Volunteers b#haved m a very disgraceful manner on Monday while returning from the Hutt review. By some means they had provided themselves with blank ammunition, and they kept firing their rifles from the railway carriages as they cams along. In some instances they were observed to aim at ladies and gentleman on horseback on the Hutt road, which pro. ceeding naturally caused! eormderablo alarm. The efforts of the officers w«r« powerless to prevent these disorderly proceedings, but the names of six offenders were taken down, and they will b« proceeded against under the 271 st clans* of the Volunteer regulations, which provides that " any Volunteer who shall discharge any firearms when m any mb. lie vehicle or on any public thoroughfare without due authority shall pay a fin* not exceeding £5." They will also pro. bablybe dismissed from the Volunteer force. It is absolutely necessary thai a severe example should be made to put down disorderly and dangerous practioes of this kind. At the last review at the Hutt a couple of years ago precisely th» same sort of thing occurred. One Vol. unteer, whilst m Courtenayplace last evening on his way home, actually loaded his rifle near the gasworks and discharged it into the; street. From another Wellington paper we notic* that proceedings are to betaken' with reference to the above most improper and inexcusable conduct.
