{TJSITED PREBB ASSOCIATION.) Oamaru, Novt 23. ■Mr James Udall, one of the oldest and most respected residents of Oiimaru, was lost off the steamer Beautiful .Star on Friday night. The hVate~called tlie captain tit 2 o'clock iv the morning, and after that, upon '■ going to haul m the log 1 , Mr TJdall's hat was found lying on a coil of rope, "Bs* though 1 it had been placed there. A search was then made for Mr XTdall, but he could not be found. At this time the vessel was between Shag Point and Moeraki. He must have been overboard for some time previous, and the vessel having gone at full speed all that' time, the captain considered thaL nothing could then be done to save him.
