WANGANUI HOSPITAL.
Meeting of Management Committee . The quarterly meeting of the Wan» ganui] Hospital Management Committee was held at the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Present The Mayor of Wangauui (ia the chair). Cr Thynne (Foxton), Cr Macarthur (Feildinjj), Or Simpson (Rangitikei), Cr { Thatcher (Wanganui County), Or.s Pell, Laird, and Manson (Borough Wanganui). Inquiry was made with regard to certain incurabie patients reported by the doctor at the last meeting, and a very general opinion wf.s expressed that, the Honpital not being a refuge or an infirmary for the aged or the destitute, only such patients should be allowed to remain m the Hospital as really require medical treatment. It having been pointed out that, m the case of patients whose homes are at a distance, it might be a hardship to dis» charge them without providing them with the means of paying their fnre, a resolution was passed, moved by Cr Macarlhur, secouded by Cr Simpson, authorising the Mnyor of Wanganui, at his discretion to defray the cost of sending patients to their homes, the amonnt to be charged to the associating bodies responsible for such patients. It was also moved that the Mayor and the medical officer should accept the responsibility of discharging incurable patients. Inquiry was mnde with regard to the cost of the maintenance of patients, and the following resolution and passed on the motion ef Cr Macarthnr, seconded by Cr Thynne : — That a statement be prepared and forwarded to the delegates, before next meeting, showing the receipt and expenditure (exclusive of endowments) of the Wangnnui Hospital for the last twelve months ; also the actual cost per day of each patient. The Committee then adjourned.
