WINTER RACE MEETING

'■■' » • ■' ' A meeting of those who had subscribed towards raisiug a fund with the object of holding races on the Palmerston Race Course on Queen's Birthday, was held at the Commercial Hotel last evening. Mr James King occupied the chair, and after explaining the object of tho meeting, said the Palmerston people had subscribed £70 towards, the meeting, and added that the intended race meeting had no connection whatever with the Palmerston Club. The following gentlemen were then chosen office-bearers : — '■ . ■StewarJs; — Messrs T. King, Brown, Woods, Bentley, E. Collins, Robinson, and Skernian. Clerk of Course— Mr John Lane. Clerk of Scales— Mr Leigh. Handicapper — Mr A. Higgie. Starter — Mr Joseph Nathan. Timekeeper—Mr W. Hayhittle. Hon. Treasurer — -Mr Thos. King I Score— \ tary-MrT. H. Walton. Judge—Mr James Fen ton. The following programme was then submitted and approved of on the motion of Mr Skerman, seconded by Mr Bentley :— - , , Handicap Hurdle Race' of 25" 'sfcivs^;; Hack Hurdle Race of 10 soys. ; Maiden j Plate of 15 soys. ; Navel Bace.-oLSO' soys. ; Palmerston Guineas, a handicap of 50 guineas ; Tradesmen's Purse of 5 soys. ; The Officials Hack Race,, a sweepstake of 1 soys. Proposed by Mr Abrahams, seconded by Mr Brown, and carried, That the' present Committee hold office until the conclusion of the race meeting. In reply to a question, the Chairman stated that there vvduld bo no difficulty m the way of obtaining the Jockey • Club course: for the ; meeting, and hej believed that the steps taken to obtain a totalisator would be successtul. After a vote of thanks to the Chairman, the meeting broke up. \
