» . Result of Agnation. Mr Smith's Interview with the Minister for Public Works. (Woodvil : e Examiner.) 1 Early oa Saturday Mr Smith waited oh the Minister for Public Works with the resolutions passed at the indignation meeting held on Wednesday night -'last. In refeience to the removal- of the engineer he stated that it was never intended that Mr Carr should close
the Public Works Office at Woodville, and that, it will be re opened and the survey of the line recommenced and the estimates prepared for tender between Tahoraile and Woodville. Immediately the estimates ; for the coming year are passed he will call for tenders for the formation of the whole line between the two places. In reference to the opening of the line to Matamau, the Minister replied that he is having the rails laid on the line between Makatoku and Matamau, and as soon as this work is finished he will run a^mid-day train J;o Matamau at which a small station, included m the Tahoraite buildings contract, just, advertised, will be erected. ! With reference to the line between Matamau and Tahoraite, the Government have just taken it over from contractors and will finish it as rapidly asj possible. Preparations are m course; for calling tenders for plaielaying and -ballasting the line between Matamau aud Tahoraite aa soon a r s the work is, sufficiently well advanced. i
