Court this morning, before Mr Waldegrave, J.P., a man named James Lorrigan was fined 20s for drunkennesc, or m default of distress for ihe amount, imprisonment far 24 hours. A special meeting of the Oroua County Council will be held at the Counoil oifice, Feilding, on Monday next at noon. According to the Marton paper Mr F. Parkes, master of the Turakina public school, proceeded to Wellington on Thursday iast to receive Holy Orders m the Anglican Church. Mr Parkes will con* tinue to hold his position aa a teacher under the Education Board for at least twelve months, after which he will take a parish. Mr Parkes, it *vill be remembered was formerly a Wesleyan minister, and was stationed m the Sarrdon ; district. Father Goggen, who has only recently been working m this district under Father Kirk has received says the Chronicle marching orders of head* quartets, and leaves Wanganui m a few days to take charge of the parish at Tiinaru— a very important field of labour, ■ The brigantine Circe, which left Lyttelton on the 14fch, and encountered galesand ■ beadwindd.arrivedjn Wanganui yesterday | She brings reapers and binders for Thctin >and Co., and corn sacks for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company. The Circe will load with timber for Rockampton, to the order of Messrs P. -And J. Bartholomew. Mr D. M. George announces a special display at his establishment this evening. For the occasion it will be open till uiid» night and a very effective and ohoice ex» hibition may be anticipated.
