FROZEN MEAT.
Among vecent arrivals m Melbourne is the Baron R. Michel, an officer of the department of the Minister of Trade and Commerce m France, who ha^been commissioned by the French Government to make inquiries with a view to the promotion of direct commercial intercourse between France atd tho Australian Colonies, and to report to the head of his department on the subject. This gentlemen has given some information regarding tha price of meat m Paris which lead 3 the Argus to thiuk that the city should furnish the refrigeraing companies with a fresh field of operations. It is said that the commoner kinds of meats cannot at present be bought m the French capital for less than 13d per lb, while as much "as 2s 6d per lb is charged for "prime cuts" of first class quality. Tho prices now ruling must, of course, place meat beyond Ihe reach ot thousands, and the appearance of a cheaper article m the Parisian markets would call an entirely new class of customers. Joints at from Is Id to 2s 6d per ft can only be indulged mby the few, but large numbers could afford meat at from 6d to 8d per ib. The Argus thinks the market might at once be tested by sending small parcels from England.
