AN IMPORTANT RESOLUTION.

- ' m In the House on yVednesday, the Hon. Major Atkinson gave the following notice of motion for Friday : " That the hon. member for Auckland City West (Mr DAReAyifci,Ej) having charged the Premier and Treasurer with using for years their political position for the purpose of promoting legislation not for th&goodof the colony, but m the interest of the Bank of New Zealand, m assisting to pass the Public Debt Act, 1867 j and further having accused the Premier of receiving the sum of £10,000, or some portion of £10,000, as payment for such services rendered m passing the Public Revenues Act> 1867 ; a Select Committee be appointed to inquire and report to tlw House — (i) haie the Premier and the Treasurer or either of them, aged their or his political position improperly m assisting to pass the Public Debts Act, 1867, or m any other wayiu promoting legis* „ lation favourable, to the interest of the ' B^nko/ftew^eaUnd, aud asjainsctlH' interest of the colony (2) Did the Premier receive, directly or indirectly, the sum of £10,000, or eny larger or smaller sum, for helping fco promote tho passnge of the Public Debts, Act, 1867, : or any other Act since 1«87, ia which ttie Bank ot New Zealand was interested; the Committee to consist of Messrs Driver, Hubst, Macandrew, Montgomery, Steward, J. E. Brown, and J. v. Wilson; four to be a quorum, and to report Jn a fortnight."
