M; Snelson occupied the chair, and explained the object of the meeting, A number of gentlemen expressed their views on the importance and absolute necessity for an institution of the kind being m existence, aud aug? gested va'.ious means towards the de« sired end. The remarks of Messrs Walkley, Hawkins, King, Waldegrave, and the Chairman were specially to the point, containing valuable suggestions of a practical character. After considerable discussion, a provisional committee was appointed, consisting of Messrs Kerslake, King, A. Bentley, Haybittle, McDowell, Tingey, Charles, and Lambert, with Mr West secietary pro, tern. The meeting was m favour of the establishment of a bucket and ladder brigade, as being most suitable to the requirements and circumstances of Palmerston.
