Fatal Accident at Dog ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE.

(united pbess association.) Bluff, May 23. . Early this morning signals were made from Dog Island lighthouse that medical assistance was required and that the principal lightkesper was dying. The pilot crew took Dr. Class, Sergeant Meikle, and the Customs officer across and found Clarke dead. It appears that James Clarke the principal lightkeaper at Dog Island, went up the tower at 4 a.m. this morning to relieve William Collie, who then went home. Mrs Clarke went out at half-past seven, and noticed the light still burning, although it was daylight. Not peeing her husband she went up to the tower and could not find Clarke,.. On coming do*n Bhe called Collie, and he, accompanied by Frost and the assistants-keeper Harper, searched the outride of the tower without success, and ou opening the door on the inside of the tower at the basement they discovered the b/)dy of Clarke; m the recess where the lamp weightsrare suspended, quite d ad. The last entry on the slate m the tower shows 20 minutes, past 6, and it is supposed that the deceased had overbalanced himself whilst adjusting the lamp weights, and fallen down the centre of the tower, about 76 ft.
