INQUIRY INTO THE LOSS OF THE MARY AGATHA.

Auckland, May 22. An official inquiry was held to-day by the Collector of Customs and Captain Fraser, nautical" assessor, as to the abandonment of the schooner riary| Agatha, the crew* of- which were picked up by the «hip; Rangitikei. The evidence of Robert Owens, roaster of the Mary Agatha j showed that the vessel was dismasted, and as 2^ tons of dynamite were on: board, the risk of explosion was great. She obuld not have floated 24 hours after ahbndonment. She was insured ;■ for. £2000 m the Port Maddock Insurance Company, and valued at ; £2500. The master could not tell the value •of the cargo. The owner was John Robert, of Port Mad dock,; shipbuilder. Thomas' Francis Milman,; master of the ship Rangitkei ; Henry Evans, the mate ; arid Augustus Bartels, and an A.B. of the Mary Agatha also gave evidence corroborative of that given by. the master of the; schooner. The crew of tho lost vessel except the mate, Henry Evans^ being sll single men, have decided to remain and try their luck m New Zealand. The mate, being married, is anxious to return home, and with that object m view is trying to obtain a passage by either- the Mataara 6r. some other vessel leaving early for London.'
