BRIDGE OVER THE MANAWATU.

From the Waipawa Mai 1 , we learn of the probable erection of abridge over the Manawalu, at the upper crossin? of that river on the Masterton road n"ar Woodville, which latter town cannot fail to be materially benefited by the construction ,of the bridge,- as when it is finished the coach will be able to reach Woodville from Wellington on the day of its departure. The bridge will be considerably over 100 feet m length. This is a job for which we should have thought it would have paid the Government to invite tenders m the Manawatu paper?. A n amber of contractors have been making inquiries aboM the work, but we have not bean able to furnuh any information. The probability is, the additional cost of the work will represent m pounds what advertising m the Manawatu papers would have amounted to m shillings. Surely, this is very false economy on the part of any Government department, not to speak o( the inconvenience and annoyance to intending local contractors. '
