The ketch Emerald, Captain Backstrom, went ashore at Palliser Baj on Monday evening, and is Jikely to bo- | come a total wreck. She left Oamaru i on Friday, and got driven into Palliser Bay through stress of weather, and wenc ashore on the boulder beach. The crew experienced great difficulty | m getting ashore. Ihey drifted a large log ashoro with a rope attached, which was made fast by the settlers on the beach, and tne boat was then pulled ashoie by means of it. The vessel is insured in the Hew ! Zealand. Company for £550.
