Fatal Accidents.
(by telegraph.) (united pees 3 association. Timaru, Feb. 13. A sad fatality occurred here yeßterday. William Mahon, aged 1 5, son of Mr Mahon, schoolmaster, of Otaio, was accidently drowned while bathing m Saltwater Creek. Two of his compan* ions tried to rescue him, but were un« successful. The police, being informed of the occurrence, dragged the creek, and recovered the body m two hours.
L Auckland Herald Correspondent.] Opotikt, Feb. 11. Captain Baker, of tbe Northern Steamship Company's s.s. Staffa was drowned yesterday. He bad gone down to the bar m a whaleboat, m company with two sailors, to take the soundings, and on crossing the bar the boat capsized. He leaves a wife and. nine young children. The deceased was well known m Auckland, having traded on the East Coast for years, and he was the most popular skipper m the Northern Steamship Company's ser« vice.
